Genetic Genealogy (DNA) websites and projects often require participants to submit a GEDCOM showing their matrilineal and patrilineal ancestors. This can often be achieved by exporting the participants' Ancestor Tree or Pedigree Chart to GEDCOM from a standard family tree program. However, not everyone who participates in Genetic Genealogy is also a genealogist with a family tree already created, so this tool will enable those people to quickly create a GEDCOM that can be submitted for use on their DNA projects.

INSTRUCTIONS: The Matrilineal & Patrilineal GEDCOM Generator will enable the user to enter names, birth dates/places and death dates/places for the DNA submitter and his or her matrilineal and patrilineal ancestors. Begin by entering the DNA submitter's details below, then enter the DNA submitter's mother and father. To add another generation, click the Add More Ancestors button below. You may add as many generations as you need. When you are done adding generations, click the Create My Gedcom button and your GEDCOM will be available for download on the next page.

NOTE: This tool is functional if you follow the instructions and enter the data carefully and correctly. However, it currently does not have any 'bells and whistles'. There's no error checking and no functionality to edit a GEDCOM file once it's created (though you can start over and create another one). These features are planned, but it may be a while before they're implemented.
